ANNOUNCEMENT FOR NEXT WEEK: PICTURE DAY 9/15

So grateful for a wonderful first day!

We started off with a prayer and then our devotional on What is Faith? The bible verse from our devotional was "Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11.1

We talked about Noah, and the strong faith that he had when he built his ark and trusted the Lord. Some students shared about a time when they relied on faith, what they risked by having faith, and how they were rewarded by having faith.

Next, we played an ice breaker game to get to know each other better! Students formed small groups and rolled an "emoji dice". Depending on what emoji they rolled, they shared about a relating memory/story, then we took turns going around the class sharing about something that we learned about each other!

We also went over our Class Rules:

  1. We raise our hand to speak

  2. We treat others the way we want to be treated

  3. We speak with kindness

  4. We do our best

PHYSICAL SCIENCE

After going over how our textbook is structured, we got straight into Lesson 1, Mechanical Energy. Students took turns reading aloud and we discussed our vocabulary words and how to write their definitions (using two different colored pens for the word and definition). We also started to talk about the different ways that objects move (potential energy & kinetic energy).

US HISTORY

We started off saying the Pledge of Allegiance and then went into another ice breaker game! With this activity, students were free to walk around the classroom asking each other questions from their "Write your name if you..." worksheet. We then took turns going around the class sharing responses!

Next, students were introduced to our textbook, and went over chapter one. We learned about Christopher Columbus, where he was from, how he became a sailor at the age of 14, and the struggles he faced when he felt called to set forth on a journey (many years later) to spread the word of Christianity! Not to mention, he led one of the most well known journey's in history! We ended with a closing prayer (and this will likely be when we do this), as we have a slightly smaller group for our next class, IEW.

IEW

Students were introduced to our textbook as well as the structure of the lessons. We began learning about note making & outlines, goals, how to create a Key Word Outline (KWO), telling back a fable in their own words using just their outlines, and our new vocabulary words: beasts and gnaw.

After reading The Lion and the Mouse, circling the key words, and then creating a KWO for the fable, several students volunteered to re-tell the fable using only their outlines and they did such a great job!
