On-Demand Essay

Competency #2: Critical Thinking & Creativity

What's an On-Demand Essay?

Reflecting the learner's skills as a reader and a writer in a limited time writing task, an on-demand essay offers learners the opportunity to demonstrate the depth and breadth of their understanding of one or more literary works and related research.

Creating Your On-Demand Essay

AI IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE TOOL FOR THIS WRITING TASK.

On-Demand Writing

To create evidence of your authenticity and originality...

  • Read and annotate critical lens/ research article. Add your name to this document.

  • Review your reader's/viewer's responses (in your composition notebook).

  • Use the On-Demand Essay Checklist to create a detailed outline. Have this stamped.

On-Demand Essay Test Checklist 2.pdf

Ensure your digital work provides evidence of your authenticity and originality...

  • Open the identified Google Classroom assignment for this assessment.

  • Use only the resources indicated in the Google Classroom assignment.

  • Open the designated document and begin by transcribing (copying) your detailed outline, word for word.

  • Build upon this outline - using the annotated critical lens, your reader's notebook, and copy of the designated literary work. Draft and craft until you have completed your essay.

  • Return the hard copies of your stamped and annotated critical lens and your stamped outline to your course folder.

NOTE:  Your on-demand  essay will be invalidated if you do not provide evidence of authenticity and originality, as indicated in these directions.  You will have to start all over again - new prompt, new critical lens, new outline.
