Inspired by your independent reading and the poems found in the the Poetry 180 collection in the Library of Congress, an Original Poetry Performance is a public performance of an original poem you created.

poetry from the Poetry 180 at the Library of Congress.
To prepare for this summative, you have engaged in independent reading throughout the academic year. You have also responded to the reading with a series of reader’s responses, recorded in your composition notebook. And, you read one poem from Poetry 180 aloud each month to develop your poetry and performance skills. To create your poem, you will collaborate with a School AI bot I created. This bot will not write the poem for you; however, it will coach you through the process of crafting and drafting your own poem:
Reflecting on your independent reading and reader’s responses
Identifying themes/significant moments from your reading that you want to focus on in your poem.
Identifying and then using a poem from Poetry 180 as a mentor text.
Crafting and drafting your poem
You will complete this process twice, resulting in two unique poems. You will then select the poem you like best for your performance.
