Free-Choice Summative Assessment: Competency #2: Critical Thinking & Creativity
A digital storytelling poetry performance is a way of performing and interpreting a poem that explores a poem's imagery and metaphors through the critical lens of an individual reader's connections to the poem.
The only text included in the performance is in the title slide and the "Works Cited" at the end.
In the sample above, Dickinson's poem "Hope is the Thing with Feathers" is performed. The vocal performance, music, and images all work together to offer an interpretation of the meaning of the poem.
NOTE: AI IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE TOOL FOR THIS TASK.
Look for a reader's response to a poem from any of the literary periods and authors we have encountered. If none of these poems interest you, select a poem from the Poetry 180 Collection and create a reader's response to the poem. Your response should explore connections and questions you have identified after reading the poem several times.
Follow these steps to create your performance:
STEP 1: Use the "Digital Storytelling: Poetry Performance Draft" to help you pair images with lines from the poem. (Save to the correct ssub-folder in your course folder).
STEP 2: Research to discover music and images that will offer connections to the poem. See this resource for help.
STEP 4: Select the tool/app that will allow you to accomplish all of the "Must Do's" listed above.
Record your voice using your phone, laptop or an MP3 recorder.
Use Audacity to blend the music with your voice to create a single MP3 file (see YouTube video instructions below).

If you're not crazy about Audacity, there's a trick you might want to try. When you record your voice, play your selected music in the background during your introduction and conclusion.
Upload the completed MP3 sound file to your Google Drive course folder.
Lastly, use Google Slides (which now allows you to add sound files like PowerPoint) to create the final product. Note: You won't be able to save this as a movie file. That's totally fine.

Lastly, use PowerPoint to create the final product and save the file as a PowerPoint and as a movie file: MPEG-4 (*.mp4)

Log in with your londonderry.org Google account and then you'll be able to access all of the photos and music you have placed in your londonderry.org Google Drive course folder.
If you have an app or program that will allow you to accomplish all of the "Must Do's" of this summative, then go for it.
Keep in mind that you may need to revise your summative. Save any files that will allow you to do this.
Although you will have the opportunity to create a trend through revision, take the time to edit and revise as fully as possible now. It will pay-off in the long run and save you time. Use these links to help you with this process:

Make sure you have submitted your completed summative (the MP4 movie file) to the indicated assignment in Google Classroom by the indicated date/time.
