When was the last time autocorrect sent one of your text conversations headed down the wrong path? Did friend become fried or does become died? And while it can be quite funny, it’s also frustrating – a machine thinking it “knows” what we mean. Far more disruptive than autocorrect, spell-check, and grammar-check, AI does more than change a word. It writes reports, essays, stories, poems, songs – just about anything. So, what do we do? Pack-up our notebooks and laptops? No. We recognize that AI is just another tool, and we embrace the writing process – a uniquely human process. After all, we write to discover ourselves. We write to create meaning. We write to connect to others. We write to discover what we didn’t know we knew.
In this workshop, we’ll explore how to use AI as a tool in the writing process, and how to engage in the writing process in a way that values what is most important – the person. We will explore strategies for:
using AI as a writing tool
using AI as a tool for responding to texts
personalizing the writing process across many genres
using document histories as part of the writing conference
