The mystery bus trip on Monday 22nd Sept.'25 started off at 8:30 am with excitement and expectation. Guessing started as the bus passed different turn-offs to possible destinations. It was a glorious sunny day, and as the bus passed the countryside, we were able to enjoy the lovely picturesque scenery. Instead of hitting the main highways, John, our driver, took the back roads, allowing us to see the ever expanding infrastructure that is occurring all over Sydney and surrounds.
Our first stop for morning tea was at Warragamba Dam. The picnic site had certainly changed from the time many of us had been there before. We were then taken into Penrith, and toured the Fire Museum. Seeing what the early settlers had to use to put out fires, certainly puts into perspective the equipment we have today. The tour guides were excellent in telling us stories of old. The building was full of memorabilia of the past. All the engines were spotless and shone from the polishing that volunteers do on the weekends. Truly they love the opportunity to handle these ancient 'relics'.
Then on to lunch at the Panthers club. Everyone had the choice of meal they had selected prior, and this was topped off with free tea or coffee. (Though a few preferred the more delicate 'wine' beverage). A piece of cake topped off the meal.
As the bus heading back towards Campbelltown, we suddenly turned off at the new WSIA (Western Sydney International Airport). Here the group was divided in order to allow us all to see the movie showing how the airport was progressing and listen to the commentator explain more details. For many this was the first time they had the opportunity to do this. Although we couldn't go into the new terminal, we could see it from the Visitor Centre, which was opposite the runway.
Finally we arrived back at Campbelltown Catholic Club by 5 pm. Everyone enjoyed the day and 10 lucky winners went home with a $30 gift voucher for Meyer/Coles. 2 others won a booby prize of a box of Rocky Road. While everyone received a bag of Darrel Lea chocolate balls to top off the taste buds.
Winners were: Rhonda Mahoney; Pauline Tipping; Marilyn Johnson; Robyn Corlett; June Blyton; Karen Mahoney; Carol Gill; Maree Downey; Glenys Dudley; Kerry Walsh; Sandie Fuller; Marina Clifford.
Linda.
