Bus to the Eastern Suburbs

7 July 2022

Will we, won't we? After a bout of heavy rain it was touch and go whether or not the bus trip would take place. However the weather was kind to us and we headed off with a few overhead clouds which later turned to a beautiful sunny day.

Driver John figured that the grounds at Rose Bay would be a bit wet for morning tea, so he drove to Olympic Park at Homebush where both a covered area and cement ground enabled us to have a pleasant morning tea.

John then took us through the WestConnexM4 into the City, then up Park Street, William Street, through the Cross and into the Eastern Suburbs. A look at Rose Bay and the Flying Boat that was moored there was a pleasant surprise as we drove past. A tour of Point Piper, then down to Vaucluse House where admission was free. Built in the mid 1800's by William Charles Wentworth, the Colonial home stands as a reminder of life in those early times. The décor of the house is as it was then.

Following Vaucluse we made our way through the narrow streets of the area, ending up at Watson's Bay for lunch. Most chose fish from Doyle's on the Wharf while others meandered into the local cafes in the area. The seagulls took a liking to us and swooped to snatch food between the hand and the mouth. Gloria Bates was shocked to have a chip snatched from her, then a bit of her fish. Although lovely in the sunshine, the wind soon got the better of us as we made our way back to the bus.

Finally we were treated to a lovely sight seeing trip of all the beaches from Bondi to Maroubra, then ending at La Perouse, before heading back to Campbelltown via the M5.

The 5 $25 vouchers were won by Gloria Bates, Maureen Bailey, Sue Vanderhayden, Pamela Nelson (Probus Campbelltown City Inc.) and Robyn Corlett who was unable to come at the last minute but was included in the draw along with several others. Thank you also to Sarah Malis who brought along the Ferrero Rochea White Coconut Chocolates for everyone to enjoy. All agreed that it was a wonderful day and new friends made with members from the Probus Campbelltown City Inc. who also came along.
