Christmas BBQ Lunch

Well over 50 turned up for the free food event on Tuesday 17^th Dec. at the Banksia top section of Mt. Annan Park. An area we were able to keep to ourselves well protected from the sun.

What a wonderful day we had, and how did we manage to have a clear blue sky and a lovely cool breeze to set off the event. Everyone got into the spirit of the season and what a great spread was provided. The cooks of the day, our lovely men folk, slaved over the bbq cooking all the hamburgers, sausages, bacon, eggs and onions. They did a terrific job and we give thanks for their patience and perserverence. Not forgetting the ladies who cut up the tomatoes, opened the cans of beetroot and pineapple and spread butter on the rolls. Some prepared items at home to save time and many brought along an abundance of snacks that did the rounds continually. We finished off with a lovely fruit plate that soothed the palate after all the food we had eaten. (Left over cooked meat was taken home by some as pet food. Uncooked meat and other items were donated to the Carmelite nuns in Varroville).

The Christmas attire that people wore reminded us of the season we were celebrating. It was a chance to feel free of the hub bub of all the gift buying and hussle of crowds at the Malls. A day to just shut down and relax. Lucky door prizes were handed out and what a laugh we all had when “pass the parcel” did the rounds and those having the parcel (when ‘the bell’ paused), tried to tear open the paper with oven mitts on. It was hilarious, and a big thank you to Lesley for making up the parcel and supplying the gift voucher inside.

It was another successful day that capped off the outings during 2019. Many happy times filled with laughter and friendship. One has to only check out the photos taken during many of these events on the Minto Probus web site to see this for themselves. We can all look forward to 2020 when we will continue to grow in fun, friendship and fellowship and share experiences with both new and old members.
