Bus Tour of the Southern Highlands

Monday 4 April 2022

What a fun day everyone had on this not so long awaited bus trip. 61 members turned up for the 8am departure from the Catholic Club car park. All keen to experience the sights that the area has to offer. And we were certainly not disappointed. The weather for a start was the first real day of sunshine and cloudless sky that had been seen for many weeks.

First stop at Mittagong Duck Pond on Lake Alexandra, where morning tea was provided and a chance to stretch the legs. Plenty of ducks waited patiently for a tasty morsel to be thrown their way. The autumn colours are now starting to appear and some spectacular sights were on display. Leaving Mittagong and not far to go before reaching Berrima. Here members had and hour and a half to wander the streets and purchase what the local fare had to offer. Many could not resist the homemade jams, so came back on board the bus with shopping bags full of interesting items.

Leaving Berrima we arrived at the Moss Vale Services Club at 12:15 for a delightful lunch.

Whatever the selection, all agreed that it was tasty and plentiful. Looking at the many empty plates, it was plain to see that the fresh country air brought out the appetites. Being on a tight schedule we left the club at 1:45 for the Fitzroy Falls. Again we were not disappointed to see the beauty of the valley from the lookout. The falls were in full flow, and offered all the keen photographers a chance to snap up this beauty to reminisce at a later date.

Leaving the falls and heading back to Robinson where the eagerly awaited Robinson Pie Shop was about to be invaded. With limited numbers allowed in the shop at once, the line outside waited patiently to get their purchases. Scott, the driver, also showed his patience as it became evident that we would not be back in Campbelltown by the expected 4:30pm return.

In fact, it was after 5:15pm before we finally pulled into the car park and the weary travellers reached their cars for the final leg home, and in many cases, to bed!

Our tick of approval to Australian Luxury Travel and to Scott, the driver, (who manoeuvred this large bus on hairy and narrow parking lots with great dexterity), for keeping us all safe and sound.

Winners of the 4 x $25 wish cards were Lynette McGinty, Ben Raap, Annette Miranda & May Chen.
