This manual is meant to be a guide for training and should be updated each summer with adjustments for new policies and procedures or training topics and activities. The training facilitators should carefully read through the training manual before training to:
Adjust the training schedule to fit the realities of training for this year
Adjust any topics or activities for updated policies, procedures or priorities
Update any red sections throughout the training
Make any necessary changes to the time or location in both the schedule overview and within each section
Assign presenters to each section
Prepare supplies and handouts
During the training, make note of how long each section takes so you can make any necessary changes for future training. By regularly updating the training manual, you increase the consistency and efficiency for future training.
Tip: updates will be more likely to happen and more effective if done within the week following a training.
Training will set the tone for the summer. As training facilitators it is your responsibility to prepare the staff for a successful summer and create the appropriate work atmosphere for KidSpirit.
Role model KidSpirit professionalism
Understand and present training topics clearly
Create a positive and energetic atmosphere
Help the staff get to know one another and facilitate sense of teamwork
Use a variety of colors to help with speedy location of the appropriate handout.
Create one packet for all training to be kept on staff clipboards. This will reduce the preparation hours before each training and will be an easy resource for staff who need to make-up missed training.
Handouts can be found in the Training Handouts folder of the Brain. However, before printing handouts check for pre-printed handouts in the green training binders. Caution: Make sure to update any handouts with current information before passing out.
Sustainability Tip: Some items in the training packet could be emailed to the staff before the appropriate training or you can ask the staff to return handouts they didn’t to reuse at next year’s training.
Specific staff packets information for each training will be listed under the equipment and supplies for individual trainings.
