In the classroom the children should go over the rules every day, the main rules include:
staying away from the desk and staff boxes and out from behind the metal bins
bags in the cubbiesÂ
be safe with our bodies.
By telling this to them every day you will set the boundaries and can make sure they remember the expectations, if additional rules are needed, please add them. At this age learning the rules and routines are really important so it is imperative to stay on the schedule as best as possible and talk about the rules frequently so they remember and can learn how to maintain a daily routine.
Before the children come down from the gymnastics room you should have the supplies for the day ready to put out (depending on the group it may be easier to progressively set out the different activities, if this is the case so you can have them just off to the side ready to be used)
Also, as the children come in on the first day you may want to do a room tour and or exploration so they can become familiar with the space in a safe and controlled way. By doing this they will have seen it all and will be less likely to run around during activity times.
After this you will utilize the lesson plans for the day/week, you should follow this, if one activity is taking longer that is ok, they are 3-5 so they may not finish every task on the lesson plan.
typically, you will start with the letter/number of the day/week and then move on to the hungry little worm song, you should make this engaging to that the kids will want to join in with you. You may also want to go over the words before playing the song so that they are more likely to know what to sing.
Based on the focus group from the 2022/2023 school year not much was recorded so please add additional procedures as they become apparent!
