All applicants are required to turn in a complete application packet to be considered for hire. All applicants must be a current student in a high school or college setting to be considered for hire.
Staff Application
All applicants must complete a staff application each term. While we prefer this to be completed online, handwritten or typed applications are accepted as well.
The purpose of the staff application is to establish the applicant’s experience level and compatibility with KidSpirit’s mission and philosophy.
Any pertinent observations should be immediately noted in the applicant’s packet.
Current Resume
Applicants must submit an updated resume. This resume will be a reference for the applicant’s scholastic, work and volunteer experience, as well as an example of their professional skills. If hired the resume will be used to help determine the applicant’s pay rate based on demonstrated hours of relevant experience.
References
2 Letters of recommendation or 2 Confidential Background Questionnaires
Applicants may submit personalized letters of recommendation or use the KidSpirit Confidential Background Questionnaire forms. These serve as a reference for the applicant’s character, skills, and past performance. KidSpirit prefers references from past or present co-workers, supervisors or teachers but will accept all letters. These references must be completed before the time they have their formal interview.
Availability
Applicants must submit a class schedule with work availability. With the exception of summer term, all applicants for student staff positions must be currently enrolled in 6 or more credits. During the summer term, applicants must be registered as a student for summer or fall term to be considered for hire, and must be taking no more than 4 credits to work full-time (21-40 hours). Students that have just completed their time at school but are not enrolled the following fall can be hired as a Seasonal Hire at the director’s discretion. THIS IS NOT PREFERRED. It is important to advertise to the right audience
Lesson Plan (Head Instructors Only)
Applicants for head instructor positions must submit a sample lesson plan. This lesson plan may be a copy of a past lesson or an original lesson catered to KidSpirit. The purpose of this sample is to demonstrate the applicant’s experience and ability to create a safe, structured, age appropriate and creative lesson.
All materials should be collected together as they are submitted and filed under the applicant’s last name. Any changes to the applicant’s packet should be noted on the Excel spreadsheet and hiring materials immediately. The hiring team is in charge of sending emails and contacting applicants about application materials and scheduling interviews. The hiring team should track and review the materials before conducting an interview with the applicant.
All applicant packets must be complete before the applicants Formal Interview.
All applications (even returning staff) must be submitted by April 20th or they will not be considered. On the 20th you will no longer be able to submit an application. Date may vary depending on term but the hiring decisions should be made with ample time to find replacements for turned down offers before the first training date.
