Gymnastics Supervisors will observe the coaches as much as possible, assisting and correcting as needed.
Provide constructive and positive feedback, commending hard work and correcting elements that could be stronger. Provide feedback in the moment, after class, or in a more formal setting when sitting down, depending on what the feedback is.
Quick feedback can also be provided through slack either in private messages or on the gymnastics general channel, depending on the specificity of the feedback.
Supervisors will share any guardian feedback that is shared with them and is important to the staff. They should share this in the method most appropriate for the feedback.
Formal Evaluations and Meetings - these can fluctuate based on the schedule of the term and what supervisors have time for. Here are some general guidelines:
2 formal evaluations must be given to staff each term (midterm & final evaluation)
Evaluations can be found on the KidSpirit drive: HI Evaluation Doc
When doing formal evaluations, watch at least half of the class. Fill out the evaluation form and offer substantial feedback in specific categories, as well as in the sections at the end.
Follow up with the coach at either a scheduled meeting (like a midterm or final evaluation), or in person after the class.
Meetings should be about 15-20 minutes and should thoroughly go over the evaluation with time for the coach to ask questions.
Go through the evaluation form with them and note things they did well and things they could have done better.
Ask each coach a goal that they have for next session and type it in at the bottom of the evaluation form.
After following up with the coach, scan and upload the evaluation in Ideal-Logic under the "documents" tab in each coach's profile.
Supervisors should videotape coaches ideally once or twice in the term, but don't need to videotape them every time. It is ideal to video once at the beginning of the term and once at the end, so that supervisors can monitor improvements of coaches.
This can be done through the security cameras already in the gymnastics room if the eval is completed within a week of the class. (The security system only keeps a weeks' worth of video at a time)
You can pull clips and have the coach watch themselves.
Gymnastics Supervisors will provide a Midterm Check-in Week five (5) or six (6). These evaluations are meant to be an opportunity for the staff to express needs, and for supervisors to provide support by way of feedback, empathy and direction. Meetings are 15-20 minutes at most.
Midterm Check-in forms are found at Shared>Forms and Templates>Evaluations>Gymnastics Evaluation Forms.
Midterm evaluations can also go over any evaluations that have been recently done and also can watch video footage.
Staff should set several personal and professional goals at their midterm meeting that they can work on through the end of the term.
Final evaluations should be formal individual sit-downs with coaches.
Things to cover in a final evaluation could include:
Allow coaches to provide thoughts on their own coaching.
Go over any recent formal evaluations done in IL.
Go over areas of strengths and areas of improvement for each coach as well as the scores they received on all marks.
Revisit the professional and personal goals the coach set for themselves at their mid-term evaluation to see how they were met.
Allow for time for coaches to set some goals for the next term to track for the midterm evaluation of the next term (if coach is working the following term).
If it is spring term, have them apply for the next fall term or see what they are doing for summer (the returning staff application should be open by then)!
Guardian evaluations are essential for providing outside feedback from our patrons. Evaluations should be available on paper or Google Forms.
Distributing and collecting Evaluations
Paper Evaluations: Paper Evaluation Link
Paper evaluations should be handed out by supervisor at the beginning of the classes with clipboards and pens.
The office staff can then enter the paper evaluations into the google forms.
Evaluation Results:
Once all surveys have been gathered and entered into google forms, results can be shared with staff.
Link the google form to a google sheet.
Go through the google sheet and organize information that would be helpful for staff. Save the google sheet on the brain for future reference.
Share feedback with staff, only constructive or positive during their final evaluations
Do not share things that the staff cannot change or work to improve.
Feedback should be printed for staff and addressed at the training for the next term.
Electronic Evaluations - (Note: Currently we only use paper copies)
Go to the KidSpirit google drive.
Use the End of Term Guardian Survey from the previous term.
Edit the survey to reflect the current coaches and feedback needed-
Survey can be edited to have space for testimony, coach feedback, feedback on special programs, etc.
Additional surveys for reference can be found by going to Forms and Templates>Evaluations>Gymnastics Evaluation Templates>Parent Eval Total Template on the brain.
