Genesis 1:1-4
God Said Let There Be Light out of the Darkness
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
Isaiah 9:1-2
To Us a Child is Born
1 Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan—
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
John 8:12
Jesus is the Light
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
John 9:5
Jesus is the Light
5 "While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
John 1:4
Jesus is the Light
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
John 3:19
Jesus is the Light
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
John 12:35-46
Jesus is the Light
35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
“Lord, who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40 “He has blinded their eyes
and deadened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.
44 Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
In the beginning, we are given a picture of the world as it started out in darkness...It was a mysterious world and time and the Spirit of God hovered over this darkness, formless, empty world...God must have seen the world was dark and needed a Light...And soon God would give us the creation and beauty of the Light...And this Light was Good...And the Light separates Itself from the darkness...When God said let there be Light, the darkness was filled with the Light...For where there is Light, darkness does not exist...
When Jesus was teaching He declared that He was the Light...He said He was the Light of this world...And while He remains in this world He remains the Light of the world...In Jesus, we receive the Light of life...He gives Light to men...But some men do not follow the Light, because their deeds are evil and they prefer the darkness over Light...
When Jesus was preparing His disciples for His arrest and death, He tells them that the “You are going to have the Light just a little while longer...Walk while you have the Light, before darkness overtakes you...The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going...Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of Light.”...
Darkness represents evil, death, despair, things people are afraid of, and wickedness...Jesus represents the Light and the goodness in life...When we walk in His Light, we know where we are going...It is the path of righteousness...When God said let there be Light, the darkness was overwhelmed by the beauty of the Light...The Light replaces darkness...Jesus came into the world as a Light, so that no one who believes in Him should stay in the darkness...
I prefer the long and bright days of summer to the shorter cold, dreary, and darker days of winter...The bright days seem to cheer me up...So, it is no surprise to me that Jesus is the Light, and the Light of men...It also is of no surprise that His birth was on one of the shortest days of the years...He brings Light to the dreary, dark days of winter and gives me a hope that soon the Light will expand our days, and we will be renewed by springtime...Jesus brings hope to a dark and dreary world...This is because He came to take the world out of its darkness, and bring it Light, more Light, His Light...Where there is Light, darkness is no more...Jesus was not impeded by the darkness...Because wherever His Light goes, the world becomes full of Light...
God saw again that the world two thousand years ago needed a Light...There is Treasure in the Light...And we know that the Light is Good...The Son of God is Light...And when God saw the Light He knew that it was Good...
