John 8:12-24
Jesus is the Light
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13 The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”
14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
19 Then they asked him, “Where is your father?”
“You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
21 Once more Jesus said to them, "I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come."
22 This made the Jews ask, "Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I go, you cannot come'?"
23 But he continued, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins."
John 14:6-7
If We Know Jesus, We Know the Father
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
When I was young when I looked at the sun and thought about the sun, I immediately thought of light and the warmth and heat from it...The sun is different from many of the things of the day and night, because it brings us this light and great brilliance...And somehow the Light of the Day makes me feel better...Just having the sun out makes me feel better...A relative of ours used to email us on a daily basis, and would say in the winter months, another dreary day was here in each of her daily e-mails...Dark, cloudy days can make us dreary...It seems like we do need the Light to feel better...
Jesus is the Light of this World...And He called Himself the Light of the World...He came from above to teach us more about God...He is and tells us that He is much like God...He said those who know Him and have seen Him when He was on earth, then know God and have seen God...So He is not of this world...God sent Him for us to learn about God and Him...And if we follow the One God sent, we will be in His Light and not in a dreary darkness...He is so different and unique that He has this Light about Him, that makes Him like no other...This Great Brilliant Glow of His Being, His Particular Light, sets the standard not only for all the Light of this World, but for all things of the universe...This Light makes one feel good about themselves and this world...He has set the standard for the Light, the Truth, and the Way of Life...No other standard will do...
