John 10:22-42
The Unbelief of the Jews
22 Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father’s name speak for me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33 “We are not stoning you for any of these,” replied the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are gods’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37 Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. 38 But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.
40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true.” 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
Do we see God, when He is in our midst?...Does it take a miracle or a set of miracles for the non-believer to say, yes that is God, and Him doing that (the set of miracles the non-believer needs -to see God)?...Some people just could not recognize who Jesus was, when He taught on earth...Jesus' miracles were so great and so humbly-subtle that many did not see them as miracles...But sometimes, in fairness, it does take time for us to recognize holiness and the divine...Sometimes we walk right by things and don't even notice them...Sometimes we just see the things we want to see...Most of the time we have to have a belief in something to believe...Some Jews did not have an opinion on Jesus and others just did not believe in Him...Some who had seen Jesus do many miracles, still could not believe, because they could not believe that He was from God...These many great miracles were from the Father, yet those past miracles weren't enough to believe Jesus was from heaven...
Jesus reminded the unbeliever that God was in Him, and He is in God...He says this so we will understand who He is...He is in the Father and the Father is in Him...And if we cannot believe this, (He tells us to) look at all the miracles He has done, and believe that He is divine, because He has done many miracles, and different types of miracles...Still many Jews could not believe...Jesus mind is divine, and from God...Our minds and thoughts are human, and we have a hard time understanding that Jesus came from above...Maybe it is hard to see things as they really are, because we see things as we are...We see, exactly that, what we see...It is very hard to see all things when we are very busy...It is also harder to see things when we are angry...And in defense of the non-believer, who can really do miracles?...
We sometimes turn away from God and do not even realize it...Most of the time He speaks in a gentile wind or voice...God's language is difficult...We have to be listening, and not always busy, talking, or angry...We turn away from Him, when we fail to forgive or when a neighbor is in need...God is in justice and love...Have we overlooked Him in these places?...These are things of God...This is where He hides...We will find Him, where He is, in these things of God...It is easy to pass over these things in a busy life, when we are angry, or fail to see these things, if we are not looking for the right things...If we are so focused on this life and this world, we will not see Him...Let us try more, to see those things as they really are...Let us try (albeit very difficult), try thinking that Jesus is divine and thinking more of the eternities and from His point of view...
