John 17:1-5
Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
John 5:17
Jesus Works and His Father Works
17 In his defense Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working."
John 14:1
Trust in God, Trust Also in Jesus
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
John 14:6-7
When We Know Jesus, We Know His Father
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.
John 10:30-33
Jesus Says He and His Father are One and is Accused of Blasphemy
30 "I and the Father are one." 31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
John 8:58
Jesus Says He is I AM
58 "Very truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
Philippians 2:5-11
Jesus is the Very Nature of God
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
1 Timothy 3:16
Jesus is God in the Flesh
16 Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
Acts 1:1-3
Jesus Appeared to His Disciples for Forty Days after His Death
1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
Acts 17:29-31
Paul Says God Raised Jesus from the Dead
29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
Matthew 26:57-68
Jesus Admits He is the Messiah, the Son of God, and Says He is the Son of Man
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.
Finally two came forward 61 and declared, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.’”
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” 63 But Jesus remained silent.
The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”
“He is worthy of death,” they answered.
67 Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”
There are some who do not believe that Jesus was not God in the flesh...But Jesus made many statements about His relationship to God, and how very, very close they are and how special it is...When Jesus was praying to His Father, the night before His arrest, He allowed His disciples to hear Him, or at least John heard Him and wrote these things about that prayer...Jesus looked up and at heaven and prayed, “Father, the hour has come...Glorify your Son, that Your Son may glorify You...For You granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those you have given Him...Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent...I have brought You glory on earth by finishing the work You gave Me to do...And now, Father, glorify Me in your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began."...
Jesus was given authority by His Father over all people, not just a select few, or just some, or just authority over believers in Him...No, He says God has given Him authority over all people...That means everyone...Jesus tells us that God, the Father is always working, and at the same time, He is always working...He says that we should believe in God, but we should also believe in Him...When we really know Jesus, we will also know His Father as well...These statements Jesus made make me think the Jesus is God in the flesh...Paul says He is God in the flesh...He came to earth to show others and us about God...He includes Himself with God in defining eternal life...He tells us that eternal life is knowing the One True God, but also knowing Him, who God has sent to earth...He says to a disbelieving group before Abraham, I AM...I AM is the name of God, and now He is calling Himself God...And then He makes one most dramatic exclusive statement ever made in the history of the universe, in that no one gets to His Father or to God, except through Him...These particular statements take many people back...St. Paul says that Jesus is the very nature of God...He was God in the flesh...God exalted Him, so that every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, for the glory of God the Father...Luke writes that Jesus died and then returned to earth for forty days...So it is hard to question His divinity...God has given proof of this to everyone by raising Jesus from the dead...Beyond all questions, the mystery from which true Godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up into heaven in glory...Many people are at odds with many of the statements that Jesus made during His life on earth...What He said had Him crucified...But if Jesus really is God in the flesh, as St. Paul says, then His statements make all the sense in the world...
