John 8:31-47
Jesus Speaks About Truth
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
It is sad for the world, in my opinion, as more and more people meet on the internet and are getting to know each other digitally rather than face to face...The internet houses many lies, and it is harder to differentiate the truth from a lie on the internet...Even when one is face to face, listening for the Truth can be difficult...And with the internet makes it even much more difficult...It used to be our human relationships were based on studying face-to-face interactions and conversations in the real world with people....But face-to-face conversations are becoming less and less and and fewer and fewer, as more and more aspects of our lives move online and as technology advances...So it is important to understand how the internet can impact our relationships and those we meet...The younger generation of people who are growing up in the world now and grow up with a smart phone or tablet are doing much of their socializing and conversation on a digital platform...So one must be on guard and aware of what they read and hear and believe is true...
When we read Scripture learn about Truth and the untruths...We read what Jesus thought about Truth...In His Truth, He said different things about the evil one...Jesus called him a liar and the father of lies in John 8:44...Jesus said that he was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him...When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies...Jesus called the evil one the enemy in Matthew...He came out and the evil one is the evil one in Matthew 13:38...He called Him the prince of this world in John's gospel...For now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out...If we hold to Jesus' teachings, we are really His disciples...Then e will know the Truth, and the Truth will set us free...
So we learn the native language of satan is lying and he is the father of lies, with no Truth in him...There are many things that make lies and falsehoods very bad...Jesus said He is Truth and He said that God's Word is Truth, so when one is telling lies they are leading us away from God and Jesus...So the evil one in his temptations to lead us away from the Truth, we not only get further and further from the Truth, but further away from the Father and Son, also...We see lies and falsehoods on many different websites nowadays...These are mostly people opinions and beliefs and not a Universal Truth like the Father and Son...The most severe consequence of believing a lie or untruth about God and Jesus is that They are the answer to Eternal Life...Jesus defined eternal life when He said “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”...If one says that either does not exist then they are dead in there tracks and have everlasting death...We need Jesus for our Salvation, because no one gets to God except through Him...Thus saying that the Two do not exist and believing they do not exist, one has missed the most important Truth about Eternal Life and only death everlasting awaits...Thus untruths and falsehoods about God and Jesus are very dangerous indeed...Let us believe in the Truth of Jesus and His Father...
