Psalm 66:16-18
God Listens
16 Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. 17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; 19 but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.
John 9:31
God Listens to Us
31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.
Proverbs 15:29
God Hears the Prayers of the Righteous
29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
Judges 6:36-40
God Listens to Gideon and Communicates to Him
36 Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised— 37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.” 38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water.
39 Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.” 40 That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.
Listening is an important part of communication...Communication requires one party to listen...Without listening to the party speaking, we cannot communicate with them...I think, if we had to choose which is easier, being a great listener or giving great speeches, I think most people would say it is easier to listen than getting up in front of people and giving a great speech...We can all be good and better listeners...
The Psalmist tells us that God listens to us, when we do not have sin and wrongdoings in our hearts...God then hears our voice in prayer...And St. John tells us that God listens to the man who does His will...Solomon tells us in Proverbs that God hears the prayers of the righteous...In regard to God listening to us, it seems we cannot have our minds set on wrongdoings, evil, and sinning...For our prayers to be heard we must not pray with sin in our minds and in our hearts...When we have sin and evil in our hearts, He turns a deaf ear to us -and the LORD seems not to listen...He listens to us more and better when we are righteous and are not sinning or doing evil...
I think, God listens more than He does speaking or communicating to us (but I may be wrong on this -it is possible throughout most of our days He may be communicating to us and we may be missing Him)...But God does hear us...Part, if not much of God's communication to us, is His listening to us...And God is a Great Listener...To be a Great Listener takes great patience, and God has great patience...To be a Great Listener, One has to be and remain silent, while the other party is speaking...We know that God does remain silent to us, very often...God is The Great Listener...We should learn to listen as He listens...
Gideon did not know if God was listening to him, and ask twice for His communication...Gideon realized that one test of the dew and the wet fleece could have been an accident or just a happening...But the second time and request of God, Gideon realized that the dry fleece was a guise of God...We must learn to listen to God better...God sends us angels in many ways and disguises...The angels maybe in the form of friends, an acquaintance or family, or something unusual as Gideon found out ...We must learn to better to listen (and be as righteous as we can be) in hearing these things that He sends and in hearing Him...He wants us to be better listeners of Him...
