John 14:6-7
Jesus is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
Hebrew 13:8
Jesus the Same Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
John 16:12-15
The Holy Spirit Guides Us to Truth
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
John 8:31-47
Knowing the Truth
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”
34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
39 “Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
Aren't there things, maybe many things that are sort of gray and not black and white and hard to put one's finger or mind on to believe in its truth or truths?...But why do we believe in anything?...One would think we believe in things because they are true...Why would we believe in things that are not the truth?...So one would think we believe in just those things that are true...But do we?...
I believe that each individual defines truth by their our own personal beliefs and their own personal experiences...I think that truths are how each of us see our own things in life, coupled with what we believe in and how we see things to be and how we have personally experienced things in the past...Those who have raised us and those we love and follow, greatly affects our how we see truth (as well as many other things)...Our experiences and belief system and our truths seem to enhance what we believe...If one believes this, then we can see why we put truth on matters that are not black and white...And because I believe these things as truth, as my experiences change, truth can change...But, how can these two things be...How can areas that are gray become true and how can truth be ever changing...Truth cannot be a changing thing...Is truth only found in only universal, non-materialistic things like math and sciences?...But I know that love, forgiveness, justice, and wisdom exist and they are non-material things...
Truth is an interesting subject...The question I must ask constantly ask myself about my truths since many are personal -is are they true...I think, it needs to be ask, are my truths true and are the things I believe in, are they also true (if my definition of truth is true)...
Jesus makes us look at Truth (and many other things) in completely different ways...I think there is this need for truth, this urge to find Truth, and I think it comes from the Holy Spirit...Jesus tells us the Holy Spirit does not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come...The Holy Spirit receives from Jesus what He will make known to others about Him...The Holy Spirit, in doing these things, guides us to all Truth...
I AM Truth...Who would have ever thought, that One would ever stand up and say that about Oneself?...But Jesus did just that...Jesus stood up two thousand years ago and said " I AM Truth."...And by Truth's very nature truth based in facts, Truth cannot and does not change...Truth, if it is a Universal Truth, must be the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow...Universal Truth is unchanging and therefore exclusive...That is why I have no problem with Jesus saying that He is exclusive, in the fact, that no one can get to the Father, except through Him...We can get to know the Truth, when we realize that Truth is a Person...He also said, “If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples...Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”...So, when we hold to His teachings and are guided by the Holy Spirit, we get to know the Truth...And when we know the Truth, this Truth will set us free...Jesus' doctrines sets us free from sin, and the earthly corruptions we face each day...
