John 8:1-11
Jesus and the Adulteress Woman
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
John 3:16-21
God LOVES the World and Did Send Jesus Here to Condemn the World, But to Save the World
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
The Pharisees brought in a woman who had committed adultery and were testing Jesus in a life and death situation (for the woman)...
It was at dawn and Jesus appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around Him, and He sat down to teach them...There were many watching and listening...There was those wanting to be taught by Him and to listen to what He had to say...However, before the teaching started and event occurred...The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman they had caught in adultery...They made her stand before the group and say to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery...In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women...Now what do You say?”...They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing Him...It does not seem they cared to much for stoning the woman and their concern does not seem to be focused on learning about the Mosaic Law...The Pharisees seem interested in trapping Jesus...Jesus would be trapped if He sided with the Law of Moses...It would mean death of this sinner...The Pharisees were not looking for the Goodness of God or for the Light of this World...They wanted just to trap Jesus as others watched...
But Jesus came to earth to save sinners...So He in all His wisdom knew the right answer...The Truth comes into the Light...The Truth does not hide...Jesus knows the context of all Scripture and all Truths...He knows that all of us have sinned...God LOVES the world and did not send Jesus here to condemn us, but to save us...He knows His Father is forgiving and full of grace...The right answer was and is, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”...
