John 1:1-14
A Light Came into the World
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 8:12
Jesus is the Light of this World
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
2 Corinthians 4:4-6
God Has Sent the Light
4 The God of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
Some people us the term about a darkness being in our lives...And when we hear this -that someone has a darkness in their lives, we know that it is not good...And it does seems like there is sometimes this darkness that is around us...And it does not feel good...And when we experience this darkness, we give the “word” darkness a negative connotation...
On the other hand, when we hear about a Light being in our lives, we for some reason associate that with goodness...And we give the “word” Light gives us a positive connotation...A positive feeling...Light is Good...Light is Goodness...
For me I have always liked the Light much more than I have darkness...When the days are dark and dreary my mood is low...On the other hand when the days are sunny and Light there is an uplift in my mood...I feel better when there is this Light...
How does one explain the Light being good and the dark being bad?...This is how I would explain it...It is the Way St. John wrote about Light, and the Way St. Paul saw this Light...There is a Light in the world that shines in the darkness, and it is something that the darkness does not understand or comprehend...Only Light can drive out darkness...When Jesus was born we saw a Great Hope born, a Great Light was born that day...For when He was born Light came to shine out of darkness...And if you have walked or felt at times a darkness, you can hold on to this Light and have this hope... And if you have walked in the darkness you can change by walking in the Light of the LORD; and walk as children of the Light...When something is completely dark and you turn on a Light, any Light, the darkness is overcome...Only the Light can make darkness go away...God through His Holy Spirit has let the Light shine out of darkness,” and He made His Light shine in our hearts to give us the Light...The Light is the knowledge of Truth and grace of His glory and it is displayed in the face, the life, and the teachings of His Son...
St. Paul tells us it is the that Light shines out of darkness and His Light shines in our hearts to give us the Light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ...It is Jesus who is the Light of our lives and makes us feel this goodness, His Goodness...
