Stewart Johns rode for four seasons under National Hunt rules and had three wins.
He led until well past halfway on his first ride in the Slough Selling Handicap Hurdle at Windsor on February 21, 1979, but eventually his mount, Silari, faded and was unplaced.
His first success came later that season, at Fontwell Park on May 7, when the eight-year-old Fair Streak, a 16/1 chance, took the lead approaching the last flight and ran on strongly to take the Fittleworth Selling Handicap Hurdle by two lengths.
His second win was at Wolverhampton on November 24, 1979 aboard the four-year-old Philomela in the Castlecroft Selling Handicap Hurdle, gaining a comfortable victory by seven lengths. They were well beaten on their two subsequent starts.
However, Fair Streak was still running well and he gave Stewart his final win when taking the Otterden Opportunity Selling Handicap Hurdle at Folkestone on December 3, 1979, scoring by ten lengths.
Stewart’s last ride was at Hereford on Whit Monday, May 31, 1982, when Buckenham Belle finished seventh of 19 starters in the Stoke Edith Selling Hurdle.
