Anthony Jennings rode six winners on the Flat and had one success over jumps. Apprenticed to Snowy Gray at Beverley, his first winner was at Pontefract on July 24, 1958, when he beat three much more experienced jockeys, as the three-year-old Iron James led all the way to beat Joe Mercer on Legal Fare by four lengths in the Bradford Handicap. Eric Eldin and Johnny Greenaway filled the minor berths.
Although they were unplaced on their one subsequent start together that season, horse and jockey came good again at Pontefract in each of the following two campaigns. However, it was another three-year-old that gave Anthony his final winner on the Flat when Grecian Boy beat the favourite Souci at the end of the Tadcaster Selling Plate at Pontefract on September 14, 1961, scoring by three-quarters of a length, having taken the lead three furlongs out to claim the prize.
Anthony held a National Hunt jockey’s licence for just one season, 1961/62, and rode his only winner when Pedlar’s Fair landed the Stewards’ Hurdle at Haydock Park on February 7, 1962.
Trained by Snowy Gray and owned by his wife, the six-year-old had run three times during the season, with Anthony aboard each time, and had finished third on his latest effort at Catterick Bridge in January. Now the gelding took the lead approaching the final hurdle and maintained his advantage on the run-in to win comfortably by two lengths, beating Indian Tint, ridden by champion jockey Stan Mellor.
Anthony was placed twice more from three subsequent starts on Pedlar’s Fair, but they could not repeat their success. He did not renew his licence the following season.
