Anthony Jennings

Anthony Jennings held a National Hunt jockey’s licence for just one season, 1961/62, and rode his only winner when Pedlar’s Fair landed the Stewards’ Hurdle at Haydock Park on February 7, 1962.

Trained by Snowy Gray at Beverley and owned by his wife, the six-year-old had run three times during the season, with Anthony aboard each time, and had finished third on his latest effort at Catterick Bridge in January. Now the gelding took the lead approaching the final hurdle and maintained his advantage on the run-in to win comfortably by two lengths, beating Indian Tint, ridden by champion jockey Stan Mellor.

Anthony was placed twice more from three subsequent starts on Pedlar’s Fair, but they could not repeat their success. He did not renew his licence the following season, leaving him with a record of one win, one second place, and three thirds, from a total of 15 mounts under National Hunt rules.

Anthony Jennings solitary winner: Pedlar's Fair at Haydock, February 7, 1962.
