Peter Jones

Peter Abel Harding Jones was born on November 10, 1940, and lived at Rising Bell, Market Lane, Greet, Winchcombe.

A NH jockey, his best season numerically came in 1970-71 when he booted home 22 winners.

His first winner, Rising Bell - after which he named his house - won at Fontwell on November 7, 1960.

Peter went on to win the Molyneux Chase at Liverpool, Ascot's S.G.B. Chase & the Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham.

He rode as a freelance.


In the 1964 Grand National, he rode Fred Pontin's Pontin-Go into 5th place. (Pontin-Go was formerly called Gay Navarree.)

Peter was back at Aintree in 1966, this time finishing seventh on Norther.


On June 14, 1969, he married Pamela Anne Jordan. She gave him two sons, Christopher & Stephen.

Away from the saddle Peter enjoyed swimming & golf.
