William Jones

On 1 April 1909. ex-jockey William Jones, aged 54, of Woolwich Road, Charlton, committed suicide by hanging himself in a stable. At an inquest held at Greenwich later that day, a relative said that the deceased formerly held good positions and was at one time in the employ of the Duke of Rutland as master of the kennels, but he gave way to drink and this led to his downfall. A verdict of suicide was returned without an opinion being expressed as to the state of the deceased's mind.
