Ronald Jesse

Born in 1947, Ronald Jesse was the younger brother of lightweight jockey William (Bill) Jesse (born 1942) who gained his most important success on Major Rose in the 1967 Newbury Autumn Cup.

Ronald (or Ronnie) joined trainer Bob Turnell on leaving school and rode his first winner on Aboukir, who made all the running to win the Boxgrove Apprentice Handicap at Goodwood by an easy four lengths on August 18, 1966.

His second success came courtesy of Druid’s Dream, the comfortable three-length winner of the Maid Marion Apprentice Stakes at Nottingham on October 2, 1967.

His third – and final – winner was gained in a walkover on Aboukir for the Oldfield Handicap at Bath on June 14, 1968.

Unlike his elder brother, Ronald’s career did not progress beyond the apprentice stage.
