To research and create a guidebook to play chess in Tamil [one of the local south Indian languages] which will cater to the underprivileged kids of my community. This will help them learn the game of chess at a beginner level.
The IB MYP Process Journal is a useful place to record information while working on all stages of the Personal Project. The student creates the journal in a format that suits his/her needs (scrapbook, word doc, blog, composition notebook, binder, etc.).
My personal project aims to create a guidebook in Tamil [one of the local South Indian languages] which will cater to the underprivileged kids of my community. This will help them learn the game of chess at a beginner level. As a whole, it allowed me to learn the language of Tamil, which is the language spoken by the paternal side of my family and it is a language that I have always wanted to learn. It also allowed me to teach the game of chess, a game that I have spent a lot of time learning and understanding in the past. Apart from this, it also built-in me multiple ATL skills that were key learnings. The structure of the personal project helped me learn while also following a goal that interested me. My global context of “Personal and Cultural Expression” allowed me to carry out my project in a structured manner and the whole process either directly or indirectly played a role in helping me develop the various ATL skills. The process of reaching out to the underprivileged children in my community, using my experience in the 100 books initiative, writing process journal entries, conducting research amongst other things helped me in the development of not only my communication skills but multiple other skills such as Thinking skills and Research skills.
