Creating 5 short video clips on how to care for stray dogs in order to raise awareness about ethical ways to treat animals and reduce the problem of increasing stray animals present on the streets.
The IB MYP Process Journal is a useful place to record information while working on all stages of the Personal Project. The student creates the journal in a format that suits his/her needs (scrap book, word doc., blog, composition notebook, binder, etc).
The personal project had to be based on one of the six global contexts that were provided in order to guide us through this project towards helping our surrounding communities. My project was to produce five short videos on how to care for stray dogs with the aim of spreading awareness about ethical ways of treating animals and reducing the increasing problem of stray animals in India. My project was very research based and require an extensive amount of research, therefore enhancing my Research Skill which is a skill present under the ATL skills. Another example of how important ATL skills are was when my Time-Management skills were put to the test in order to be able to balance my personal project (keeping up with deadlines, ensuring progress, consistency) and studies (exams, internal assessments, more deadlines) as well as the pressure and stress from the pandemic. IB learner profiles aim to ensure that students look beyond academic success and develop responsibilities and the capacity to help their surrounding communities and society as a whole. The personal project is not an academic task, rather focuses on developing these IB learner profiles. My goal was to help my surrounding community the impacts we have on stray animals and the impacts stray animals have on us and solutions to overcome these problems. My personal project has proved and showcases numerous IB profiles that I have developed throughout this journey, including; Caring (They show empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. They have a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment), Reflective (They give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development), and Principled (They act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them) just to name a few.
