Genesis 3:1-7
Tempted by a Desire
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
We are sometimes tempted by our own desires...When Eve saw that the tree could produce good fruit and it made the fruit tempting to her...The fruit could satisfy her desire of hunger...Then she thought on...The tree with its fruit were tempting also to her eyes...And she thought this is pleasing to my eyes and to look at...Then she thought on...The fruit she thought was also possible for her to gain wisdom or more wisdom...So she thought it would be okay to eat the fruit...So she took some of the fruit and ate it...Then after she has ate the fruit, she steps back and thinks again and now realizes what she has done...Things had changed in her life...The freedom to walk around their Garden as her and her husband had done in the past, had changed somehow...For the first time in her life, her and her husband needed to be dressed...Going through with the temptation of the fruit and eating eat, would dramatically affect them forever and where they lived forever...
Sometimes we are tempted by our desires on some different things...We would like to satisfy that desire or a desire we have, so we give it some thought...Evil wants us to question good in our minds...What harm does thinking about fruit cause one?...We think and rationalize sometimes that things that can satisfy one of our desires, and is tempting to our eyes, so maybe it won't hurt me...And if it looks good, and if it makes me feel good maybe it will be alright...Eve found out that even things that are pleasing to the eye can be a sin and cause us many problems...Evil somethings hides in things that are pleasing to our eyes and our thoughts...Evil can make us think we will feel better after we taste, touch, or use something like the forbidden fruit -before we have even tried or used it...Evil is clever and crafty...So is the way of evil...
