Genesis 2:15-25
The Garden of Eden
15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.”
18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
God had created everything in the universe and there were millions of things that He spoke into creation, yet He saw and felt that man was lonely and needed something in addition to all of what He had created...Somehow after all the things that He had created, something was missing, as He watched Adam work in the Garden...And a part of what was missing was a form of love...The Special Love of a wife, with her husband...Man needed something else, a someone who could help him fill his life on earth...Someone he could share his life with and love, for the rest of his life and time on earth...So when I read the verses of God creating man and woman, I see and feel the very personal relationship that God has made for man and woman...The LORD God looked down at the Garden of Eden and said, “It is not good for the man to be alone...I will make a helper suitable for him.”...Maybe God saw Adams's home was not quite paradise until Eve was created for him...So God created mankind in His Own Image, in the Image of God He created them; male and female He created them...And since God is LOVE, He created Adam and Eve in His Image of LOVE...So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh...Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man...Adam saw the hopes, the specialty of this moment, he felt the feelings, and saw her beauty that God had created in her...
Adam and Eve is a True Love Story...God knew how lonely Adam's life would be without her...So for me, when I think of Adam being alone and needing a suitable partner, the words of Bob Marley on love best explain what happened when God made Eve from Adam's rib, and for them to be together...When Adam first met Eve and they communicated, I think it was as Bob Marley writes: “Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around...You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more...You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you...When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement...They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself...Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful...There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around...You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are...The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever...Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again...Colours seem brighter and more brilliant...Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all...A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face...In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby...Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you...You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do...Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon...You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible...You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you...You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end...Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile...Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”...
This is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh...This is love...This is how a husband and wife are to live in love united by God...
