Genesis 2:18-22
Partners in Life
18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
For a reason or reasons only known to God, He made all the other living creatures, with the exception of man, and put them on earth at the same time...He created all the plants and put them on the earth...He created all the male and female creatures and placed them on the earth...The plants could propagate and multiply...The animals could reproduce and we would always have earthly animals...God created man and woman, but not at the same time...He first created Adam...It does not mean Eve is inferior to Adam, but God gave Adam time to think about his life in paradise...And even though Adam was in paradise, something was missing... Adam could look at the earth, the plants, the animals around him as see something was missing...Adam would see what is around him and realize that he needs someone to share his life...He would come to realize that he was alone...God, of course, knew this...God knew Adam's paradise was not completed...But He probably wanted Adam to know this...How else, would man continue the human race without Eve...So God looked at Adam and when He saw that Adam knew he needed a partner in a woman and said it is not good for the man to be alone...And even though God was with Adam from the beginning, God knew he would need someone who he could more relate to...Not that Adam (or man) cannot relate to God, but God in creating man, He would put in us a feeling of fellowship, a feeling of community, and in some cases only a feeling of having only one partner with a family to share each other's life on earth...
Adam would come to realize he needs someone to share his life with...Adam felt this partnership need within himself for a partner...Adam and Eve would be the first marriage...And unlike future marriages, and today's marriages Adam and Eve's marriage was very unique...Adam and Eve were together, but alone...They were completely dependent upon each other...Not only were they to grow the population of our earth, the were the only two people on earth...Their parent or parents were God...Adam and Eve were not from the seed of man...If they had an argument or disagreement with each other they could not go or call their human parents, they had no human parents...They could not call on friends or families to vent or discuss their spouses failings and dislikes...They had one of the most unique marriages in the history of our world...
God made Eve out of Adam's rib...She completed Eden and paradise...Eve would be the last piece in Adam's paradise...They were a part of each other...As a couple, God made them for each other...How could this marriage not be blessed, by God, since they were the first two creatures made out of His image...Their marriage would be a curious togetherness, finding about what their Father had created on the earth...Each day, in a way, would be like a child discovering their world around them...Sharing their new discoveries first with themselves, and then with Cain, Abel, Seth, all their other children, and grandchildren...
Their Father, is truly their Father and THE Father...God created Adam and Eve and He is their Father, as He is our Father...And even though their marriage was in paradise, like all marriages, troubles arise like the eating of the fruit and our first sin, and then the loss of a son...Even in the best of places, even paradise, we as mankind can mess things up...They did, and would have to leave paradise...They would have to work for their food, build their shelter, clothe themselves, and take care of their family...God created Adam and Eve to be lifetime partners...They would have a most unique marriage union, and truly a genesis in the things they would discover throughout their lives...
