Genesis 1:1-31
In the Beginning
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
Some believe that the universe just came into being without any help other than some Big Bang and chemical reaction millions of years ago and all the different things of the universe and life are here because of this Bang and chemical reaction, as we try to explain creation through our scientific knowledge...And after this Big Bang, we had millions of years of evolution to get where we are today...Others believe that God brought everything into being with His Spoken Word, and Genesis tries to explain this in one chapter...And as we read the first of Genesis and knowing the complexity of all Creation and life, we could easily see that Genesis chapter one could be a series of continuous books, no matter what you believe...Creation is that complex for humans...
How did creation happen?...How did we come to have the light and the dark?...How did we come to have a sky which gives us night and day, and this light and this dark and a sky to help us see this lightness and darkness?...How did we come to have lands separated by water?...How did we come to have vegetation and all the different plants we have?...How did we come to have birds and all the living animal creatures and wildlife we have?...And how do we have men and women who came into existence and thousands of years later have been fruitful and have increased the number of people on earth, to now over eight billion people?...
No man or woman can answer these questions...I am certainly no expert or the study of life, but as scientists have studied life in all living things they find that almost all living things have a DNA and an RNA code...DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid and RNA stands for ribonucleic acid...Both are essential molecules in living organisms, but they play different roles...
The way I read about DNA and RNA and my little understanding of it, I see there is this Great Complexity, maybe better said would be Great-Great-Great Complexity in these codes...As we have discovered this DNA and RNA code in living creatures...And in studying DNA and RNA many scientists believe that God is involved in this code of all living creatures...Scientist Francis Crick who studied and help find the DNA of man, while being an atheist...While consistently atheist, his expressions may have shifted over time...He once mentioned appreciating the "beauty" and "elegance" of DNA, which could be interpreted differently than purely materialistic terms...Crick could not explain the uncertainty and robust complexity of DNA...Crick acknowledges the lack of complete knowledge about life's beginnings, stating that "an honest man" wouldn't claim definitive understanding...But he admits that life came into being with the "just right" conditions...He highlights the intricate nature of life, requiring an astonishing number of specific conditions to align for life to emerge...And he said for these to align it would take "Almost a miracle" to happen and for man exist.to ..While many will disagree with this: Crick emphasizes the huge difficulty of comprehending life's origin with our current knowledge, and in reading his talking about DNA, to me, seems like a Spiritual Explanation...
Francis Crick was and is awed at the complexity of life...Some interpret this as simply expressing wonder at the intricate details of life's mechanisms, not implying religious belief...Others see it as a call for deeper scientific exploration to uncover the natural processes underlying life's beginnings...Others see God's fingerprint in this code...Crick is open to the unknown...It could also leave room for possibilities beyond current scientific understanding, without making specific claims about them...
As for the Great Complexity of the DNA code, we see that the human genome alone is a molecule with approximately three billion genetic letters, all precisely ordered and yet highly structured and follow a pattern to give instructions to the cell...Moreover, scientists have never found inorganic matter to create a coded system of information and the machinery to interpret it...From the most primitive cells to human beings, all have the same basic operating system of this mind-boggling complexity and awe, with codes, transmitters and receivers all working together in harmony...Their seems to be a Hand or Mind or a Source that might understand this Great Complexity and to be able to put it together, and maybe able to put it together easily...In my view of this creation process, let alone the ongoing continuation of life and the healing of the body seems to point to a Grand Designer, a Great Creator...And it might better be said that we are not machines, and it is somehow the information in one's body and mind that is being Spiritually interpreted by some Source to keep our cells going and alive...And if are to be explained as machines, then we are Spiritual Machine created in the Image of God...
With today's current knowledge we have - for life to exist, you need both the complete genetic code and also proteins...Without the DNA code, you can’t build proteins...And without proteins, you can’t process the code...So how could both have arisen at the same time?...This would be a Miraculously Grand Chemical Explosion and things going neatly into an order for things to exist and be able to sustain themselves...How DNA and proteins emerged together to initiate life continues to fascinate and scientists and challenge researchers and many others...With our current knowledge DNA molecules can technically exist without proteins, its functions and the complexity of life as we know it relies heavily on protein machinery or this Spirituality Source...Proteins play indispensable roles in processing the genetic code stored within DNA...So one might ask, which came first the chicken or the egg...As we read Genesis, we see it is the chicken that came first created by God's Spoken Word...
