Genesis 2:18-25
God Says it is not Good to Be Alone
18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man. ”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
Luke 20:27-40
The Resurrection and Marriage
27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. 28 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. 30 The second 31 and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally, the woman died too. 33 Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
34 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. 37 But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ 38 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
39 Some of the teachers of the law responded, “Well said, teacher!” 40 And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
God saw that to be alone on earth is not a good thing...In the beginning God spoke on the reasons why it is important for man to have a partner...God says man and woman are to leave their father and mother and become husband and wife through uniting in a one-flesh act that seals their love...When God saw and felt that Adam had no suitable helper, He would do something about that...The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone...I will make a helper suitable for him.”...So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh...Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man...The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”...That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh...
God did not want Adam or man to be lonely...It is not good for man to be alone...So God instituted the husband-wife relationship as an equal partnership with Adam and Eve...Marriage is central to God's plan for our happiness during this life on earth...God designed Adam and Eve and marriage to provide a partnership, a spiritual intimacy and the ability to pursue God — together in this life on earth...But after we die we designed to be with God and Jesus...Jesus says, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection."...Followers of Jesus will be like angels and are now sons of God and sons of the resurrection, and all loneliness will be gone, because we are with other angels and others in the resurrection...Heaven is not a place for loneliness...There is no loneliness in Heaven...Heaven is a place full of LOVE togetherness, and fellowship, because God and His Son, and the Holy Spirit are there with the angels and the sons of the resurrection...
