Genesis 1:26-30
God Created Man and Woman in His Image
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
God created man in His Own Image, in the Image of God He created man; both male and female He created them...So the concept of man being created in the Image of God is rooted and begins in Genesis 1:26-27, where God says, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...
The "Image of God" means many things because of the Complexities of God...There is a relationship meaning and a Spiritual meaning and more...Humans have the capacity to love, create, and have fellowship with God, reflecting his relational nature...However, we do not always love, create, and have fellowship with our LORD as we should...We also do not always have good relationships with all our neighbors, even though we our taught to love our enemies...
There also are moral and ethical meaning in being made in the Image of God, because God is Perfectly Moral and Perfectly Ethical...And God has given man the ability to discern right from wrong and act with justice and compassion, mirroring His righteousness...And as hard as we try to be moral and ethical, and just -many times as humans we are not...
God has Complete Dominion, Stewardship and Control over the Universe...This points out that when God told Adam and Eve, 'Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth...Also God told Adam and Eve when He took man and put him in the Garden of Eden, they were to work and they were told to take care of it...Some people interpret that our role as stewards of creation, that will reflect God's dominion over the earth and the universe He created...
God also give us purpose and meaning, as we try as best we can to Reflect the Image of Him...So we need to seek Him and get to know Him better...We can do this by reading His Book, the Bible, which is about Him...All the books of the Bible were inspired by Him, so they reflect His teachings, ideas, and views...
So although we fell from Grace, God sent us One who is Full of Grace and Truth and allows us to regain, repent, from the One who paid our sin debt on the cross with His death...God sent us a Messiah, His Son to allow us to get back to the Garden again, with Him and His Son...And when we follow His Son's Teachings we more and better reflect the Image of God, because His Son is a Direct Reflection of His Father...
