Genesis 1:26-30
God Created Man in His Image
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
Exodus 20:1-17
The Ten Commandments
1 And God spoke all these words:
2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
13 "You shall not murder.
14 "You shall not commit adultery.
15 "You shall not steal.
16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
1 Corinthians 13:13
Faith, Hope, and Love
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
Man has this yearning to believe in a Source of all Things and that there is a purpose in life...We have this intangible question that runs through our head, and that question is why...Why are we here and what is the purpose of why we are here?...
Believers believe that the heavens and earth were created by God (in the beginning) and life has a purpose, because of Him...Man and woman are more important that the other living creatures, because God made man in His Image...Therefore, since we are created in His Image, we are loved by God and we are children of God...God wants us to work and do good and since He created us, we are spiritual creatures and therefore we are to worship and praise Him...We see that God is a Moral God and gave us the Ten Commandments to live morally...God has given us our moral laws and to live together and to live in a righteous way...These laws He has given us are morally equivalent, anywhere on earth or anywhere in the universe...These moral laws are unchanging and are about faith, hope, mercy, forgiveness, and most of all love...Even love for our enemy...
Non-believers believe that the heavens and earth were created by a random set of chemicals and billions of years ago a chemical explosion happened to create the universe...And man exists and is very much related and equal to all the other living creatures on the earth...Man is no more important than a blade of grass, because grass and man have evolved from the same chemical reaction in the beginning...Life has no purpose, because we came from just a reaction of chemicals billions of years ago...Therefore, since we are created from a chemical explosion, we have no purpose, no meaning, with no reason to work or make the world a better place...With no God there are no moral laws...There is no need for morality if we came from a chemical explosion...Why would there be?...And God and love mean nothing...Love of neighbor, let alone our enemy mean nothing, if we are from a chemical reaction...The non-believer must believe that the different moral laws of faith, hope, mercy, forgiveness, love have evolved somehow out of this random chemical reaction...So, in this belief system of man's history is from just this random chemical reaction, faith, hope, mercy, forgiveness, love are no better than no faith, no hope, no dreams, no mercy, no forgiveness, and no love...How can they be, is this is our history?...
So, I believe, as one thinks about what one believes and what he believes in, the believer can say God very much helps answer the why and whys for him about life -and the answer to our questions...He gives purpose and meaning to life, and these help answer many questions about life...
