Dedicated Falls Church City Educator


Began her 34-year career in the Falls Church City Public Schools as a 1st grade teacher at Mt. Daniel Elementary.


Named as Principal of Mt. Daniel Elementary (1977) and Elementary Supervisor (1979).


During her tenure, both Thomas Jefferson and Mt. Daniel Elementary schools were recognized for “excellence in education” by the U.S. Department of Education.


In 1989, received the Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award.


In 1990, appointed Director of Instruction and Assistant to the Superintendent.


Served as an interim middle school principal in 1992, and interim superintendent in 1995 and again in 1997.


In 1997, appointed Superintendent of the Falls Church City Public Schools.


In Mrs. Shaw's three decades with the district, enrollment grew more than 50 percent. She oversaw the renovation of Mount Daniel as principal and the renovation of George Mason Middle School and High School as assistant superintendent. As superintendent, she embarked on a public-private partnership for the construction of the new Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School for grades 5 through 7.
