Community Activist

Early founding member of Citizens for a Better City and one of the principal activists behind the 1959 campaign victory that led to the first CBC majority on the Falls Church City Council.

In 1962, founding charter member of Temple Rodef Shalom, now the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia.

President of the George Mason High School PTSA, (1965–1966).

Member and chair of the Falls Church Democratic Committee and a delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

Chair of the City Council advisory committee on women’s issues that led to the formation of the Falls Church Commission for Women, for which she became the first chair.

First recipient of the Mattie Gundry Award, established by the Falls Church Commission for Women to honor one woman each year who over time made significant contributions in advancing the equality, interests, and empowerment of women in the City of Falls Church.
