Madison Elementary School PTA president (1977–1979).


Served on the Falls Church City School Board (1980–1986), as vice chair (1981-1984) and then chair (1984–1986)


Served on the Falls Church City Housing Commission (1990–1996), twice as chair (1990–1992 and 1993–1994).


Served 12 years on the board of the Falls Church City Chamber of Commerce (1989–2001).


In 1992, received the Pillar of the Community Award from the Falls Church City Chamber of Commerce.


Trustee of Falls Church City’s Mary Riley Styles Library, (2009–2014).


Active member of the Falls Church League of Women Voters since 1976, serving as president (2009–2012 and 2015-2016), secretary (2001–2003), fundraising chair (2003–2012), and as Administrative Committee chair (2018–2021).


Long-time active member of Temple Rodef Shalom, serving in the following capacities: secretary of the board, chair of the Social Justice Committee, and co-chair of the Rabbinic Search Committee.


In 1989, became the Falls Church City Public School’s first Director of Business in Education and Community Outreach Coordinator, serving 12 years until 2001.


Initiated the Marymount University and Falls Church Senior Center educational partnership featuring a wide variety of Marymount-taught

classes for seniors, ongoing since 2013
