IDA QUICK HAWXHURST
(1867– 1952)
Exemplary, Involved, Engaged Citizen and Community Leader
Moved to Falls Church in 1889 and quickly became active in the Columbia Baptist Church, serving at various times as organist and Sunday School teacher, and engaging in various service committees throughout her 63-year membership of the Church, including the Ladies’ Aid Society and the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society.
Active member and officer of various fraternal organizations in Falls Church, including the Good Templars, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and the Rebekah Lodge of Odd Fellows
Served in multiple local civic organizations throughout her life, including the Village Improvement Society, the Christian Endeavor Society, the Oakwood Cemetery Association, Fairfax County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Falls Church Woman’s Club.
Helped form and lead the Women’s Suffrage League of Fairfax in 1913 and continued to advocate for women’s right to vote until the 19th Amendment passed in 1920.
