City and Regional Leader, a “Gentlewoman of Integrity”

First woman mayor of Falls Church (1980–1988).

Madison PTA president (1969–1970).

Member of the Planning Commission (1971–1974).

Served on the City Council for 16 years (1974– 1990), as vice mayor (1976–1980) and mayor.

Represented Falls Church on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government’s Transportation Planning Board (1976–1990).

Advocated for the Falls Church Housing Corporation to purchase 81 apartments at Winter Hill to preserve them as low-income housing for the elderly and people with disabilities.

Advocated for the establishment of Aurora House, a residential counseling center for adolescent girls.

Promoted the establishment of a Farmer’s Market.

City Infrastructure developed during her tenure includes City Hall East Wing addition, Madison Park, W. Broad Street streetscape between West Street and Haycock Road.

In 1999, received the Mattie Gundry Award for “furthering the standing of women in the community” from the Falls Church Commission on Women.

Long-time member of Citizens for a Better City, receiving its highest award, the Jane and Wayne Dexter Award, in 2002 for exemplary service to CBC and the greater community.
