Citizen Leader

Served 12 years on the Falls Church City School Board (1971–1983), as chair from 1976 to 1978.

Served as president of the Virginia School Board Association in 1980.

During her School Board tenure, George Mason High School was awarded Blue Ribbon Status by the U.S. Department of Education; the International Baccalaureate Program was added to the high school curriculum; Aurora House was established—a residential counseling center for adolescent girls.

Served six years on the Falls Church City Council (1984–1990), as mayor from 1988 to 1990 and vice mayor from 1986 to 1988

During her City Council tenure, City infrastructure improvements included Madison Park redesigned & renovated, W. Broad St. streetscape improved between West St. and Haycock Rd.

50-year member of the Falls Church League of Women Voters, and president from 1968 to 1970.

President of Citizens for a Better City (1991–1992 and 2003–2004).

In 2005, received Citizens for a Better City's Jane and Wayne Dexter Award for exemplary service to CBC and the greater community.

In 1991, received the Carroll V. Shreve Award for meritorious humanitarian service from the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce.

In 2002, received the Mattie Gundry Award for outstanding women in the Falls Church community from The Falls Church Commission on Women.
