Susanne Lawrence

Public speaker, tour guide, event organiser, art historian and also a very capable artist in her own right

It is very difficult to put Susanne into as single artistic category as she has such a broad range of artistic capabilities. The "Renaissance People" category seems the most apt.

Meet

Susanne Lawrence

After leaving school with 5 'O ' levels, I went the way of the usual sorts of jobs available to women in the 60's.

In other words, I took a secretarial course to be a secretary as a fall-back career.

I was refused University entry for teacher training at that time.

I had various jobs as a secretary for many years, during which time I got married and had two kids.

Then one day enough was enough!

I love history and began my route to qualifications as an art historian. Open University was just the thing. It had started in 1975 and by 2004 was one of the best Universities on the planet. I signed up and by 2010, after six years of hard work, my degree in Art and Art History BA (Hons) was in the bag.

Degrees. An Art Degree included, English literature and English language, Renaissance Art, Museum Management and Display, Classical and Medieval Studies, Chinese and Indian Art, Culture and Society in Britain from 1750 to present day,

I have also studied Antiques, Royalty (British), Inventions, and the more famous art endeavours around the planet.

Today, I write for a living as a copywriter, often under the pen name of "Jemima J. Jones". I write on a whole variety of subjects - on those things I know about. Tourism, city guides, women's lib, gardening, art, sport, (follow horse racing and Formula One closely) history, unusual places to visit and so forth.

I also like to help people enjoy learning why art, (paintings, tapestries, sculptures, frescoes, manuscripts and other works of art) look the way they do.

An experienced public speaker, I have given seminars and talks to well over 6,000 people. Audience participation is a feature of the seminars I conduct, and during private tours of the National Gallery and The Tate in London.

I take UK residents, tourists, business people on a break, art students and art club members, individuals and groups on all day guided tours. Great shelter when its raining and cool when its blistering hot outside!

Editor's Note

While being an event organiser by profession, an MC, a public speaker on education, a traveler (she's been on business to Italy, France, Germany, India, Pakistan and the USA) and a sports person to boot (she once swam competitively for Great Britain), Susanne is also as very fine artist herself. I have included some of her painting here just to make that point.
