Ten Thousand Reminders

Today I had reasons to reflect yet again

That survival is a team game

And without other people I'd be well screwed,

Not to mention miserable.

The thing about people

Is not so much that they help

- which they do -

Nor that I don't need their help

- which I do -

But that they give me

Myriad opportunities

To help them

- for which I feel

Profound gratitude.

You cannot fully appreciate

The beauty of the human race

Until you have helped it.

So I counted up the number of times

I was reminded of all this

In a single day.

I lost count when I reached

Ten thousand.
