Day 49.

Dominique

Day 49 of the Poetry for Peace Poemathon, Monday 4th June 20218

So that's 49 days straight! It so often happens that when I sit down to write my daily poem I haven't a clue what I am going to write about. Sometimes I am tired and just not in the mood.

But the funny thing is something always comes as long as I start and just get it moving. Today what came was thoughts of my wife and how she always makes me feel like a rich man. Another poem for her is long overdue so here it is.

And I am also very very pleased to include today a new poem by a VIP guest poet, the famous Larry Jaffe from the United States. Enjoy!

For Dominique

by Steve Cook

Today I realised I am rich

And I've been that way

For quite some time -

Not in money

Because I usually

Don't have two beans

To rub together.

But who gives a fig

For fool's gold?

I figure life is best lived

With empty pockets,

A full heart

And pristine dreams,

Because I've got what matters:

Your smile in the morning,

Your friendship lighting the dark

Now and Forever.

With you in my orbit

I'll never be cold

Or alone,

And whether or not I deserve it,

You bring me true gold,

The treasure of the laughter

In your voice

At the end of the phone.

VIP GUEST POET

I Dream

by Larry Jaffe

I dream of a weapon

so powerful

it could instantly cancel

a nuclear bomb

I dream of a weapon

so powerful

it could instantly cancel

racial and religious bias

I dream of a weapon

so powerful

it could instantly cancel

illness and disability

I dream of a weapon

so powerful

it could instantly cancel

unrelenting hate

I dream of a weapon

so powerful…

I dream of love
