Our Father in heaven - Onze hemelse Vader

When we come to the New Testament, there’s a significant change in the way the El Shaddai or Jehovah God is referenced in Scripture. In the Messianic writings we find the Nazarene rebbe Jeshua (the master teacher Jesus) who begins to refer to God as “Our Father” when he gives us the model prayer of Matthew 6:9:

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

Jesus is the first person in Scripture to begin referring to God as “my heavenly Father”, and “our and your heavenly Father”, and this is just what we would expect given our knowledge of the Divine Plan of the Ages. Jesus only used these terms in the presence of his disciples; they were not applied to others who were not yet prospective sons.

We know that Jesus was the first beloved son of God, and he came to give us the opportunity to also become sons of God as we are told in John 1:14:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

And 1 John 3: 1 & 2:

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

We know that prior to Jesus, the most that anyone could hope for was to be a dying, servant of God. But, our Saviour’s sacrifice changed all that and opened up “the new and living Way.”

Als we bij het Nieuwe Testament komen, is er een significante verandering in de manier waarop er in de Schrift naar El Shaddai of Jehovah God wordt verwezen. In de Messiaanse geschriften vinden we de Nazarener rebbe Jeshua (de meester-leraar Jezus) die naar God begint te verwijzen als "Onze Vader" wanneer hij ons het modelgebed van Mattheüs 6: 9 geeft:

"Bid daarom op deze wijze: Onze Vader die in de hemel zijt, uw naam zij geheiligd."

Jezus is de eerste persoon in de Schrift die begint te verwijzen naar God als "mijn hemelse Vader" en "onze en uw hemelse Vader", en dit is precies wat we zouden verwachten gezien onze kennis van het Goddelijke Plan der Eeuwen.

Jezus gebruikte deze termen alleen in aanwezigheid van zijn discipelen; ze werden niet toegepast op anderen die nog geen aanstaande zoons waren.

We weten dat Jezus de eerste geliefde zoon van God was, en hij kwam om ons de kans te geven om ook zonen van God te worden, zoals ons wordt verteld in Johannes 1:14:

"En het Woord werd vleesgemaakt en woonde onder ons,

(en we aanschouwden zijn heerlijkheid, de heerlijkheid als van de Eniggeborene van de Vader) vol van genade en waarheid. " En 1 Johannes 3: 1 & 2:

'Zie, wat voor liefde heeft de Vader ons geschonken, dat wij zonen van God zouden worden genoemd: daarom kent de wereld ons niet, omdat zij Hem niet kende. Geliefden, nu zijn wij de zonen van God, en het verschijnt nog niet wat we zullen zijn: maar we weten dat, wanneer hij zal verschijnen, we zoals hij zullen zijn; want we zullen hem zien zoals hij is."

We weten dat vóór Jezus het meeste waarop iemand kon hopen een stervende, dienstknecht van God was. Maar het offer van onze Redder en Heiland veranderde dat allemaal en opende "de nieuwe en levende Weg".

The Causer or Creator God as Master Maker of the world as well as of its inhabitants is therefore actually 'Father' of that whole. He is the most High (El Elyon – The Supreme God) Eternal One Whose wonder works were recognised by many.

Several times, God Himself acted or had His prophets work miracles so that people could notice His actions.

People should come to see that God His Way is in the sanctuary, because nobody, even not Christ Jesus is so great a god as our God. Jehovah the God of gods, Host of hosts is the Greatest God that does wonders and has declared His Strength among the people. He has with His Arm (our Lord Jesus) redeemed His people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. (Psalm 77:10 –15)

De Veroorzaker of Schepper God als Meester Maker van zowel de wereld als haar bewoners is dus eigenlijk 'Vader' van dat geheel. Hij is de Allerhoogste (El Elyon - de Allerhoogste of Allermachtigste God) Eeuwige Wiens wonderwerken door velen werden erkend.

Meermaals trad God Zelf op of liet Hij Zijn profeten wonderen doen zodat mensen Zijn daden konden opmerken.

Mensen zouden moeten gaan inzien dat God Zijn Weg in het heiligdom is, want niemand, zelfs niet Christus Jezus, is zo'n grote god als onze God. Jehovah de God der goden en Heer des heren, is de God die wonderen doet en Zijn Kracht onder de mensen heeft verklaard. Hij heeft met Zijn Arm (onze Heer Jezus) Zijn volk, de zonen van Jacob en Jozef, verlost. (Psalm 77:10-15)

As children of God we can come close to our Father in heaven. He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High (El Elyon – The SupremeGod) shall abide under the shadow of El Shaddai (the All-Sufficient One).

As earthly children can come to their worldly father, children of God shall be able to come close to the Self-Existing One, Him being their Refuge and their Fortress. It is in our Elohim Supreme God that believers in God shall trust. Real followers of Christ may be sure that Jehovah God shall deliver them from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

Jesus is telling his Church that we, who are in close fellowship with Jehovah, have nothing to fear despite the many dangers that surround us because our God will protect us. To emphasize this, and to more forcefully describe our Heavenly Father, he invokes four of God’s names or titles – Jehovah, el elyon, elohiym, and El Shaddai.

If we abide in the Secret Place of consecration in the antitypical Tabernacle, close to Jehovah, close to El Shaddai, then we’ve nothing to fear, for our God is Immortal, Supreme, All Mighty, and All-Sufficient. He will cover us and protect us from any evil that could possibly harm our spiritual interests.

Jehovah, our God, is the great Emperor of the whole universe, and his wisdom, power, goodness and benevolence are abundantly equal to all the responsibilities of so exalted an office. The human mind staggers in its efforts to comprehend the mental resources of a being who is able to assume and to bear such responsibility.

Jehovah God our Father is the One Who shall provide.

Als kinderen van God kunnen we dicht bij onze Vader in de hemel komen. Hij die in de geheime plaats van de Allerhoogste (El Elyon - de Allerhoogste God) verblijft, zal onder de schaduw van El Shaddai (de Enige Ene Algenoegzame) verblijven.

Zoals aardse kinderen tot hun wereldse vader kunnen komen, zullen kinderen van God in staat zijn om dicht bij de Zelfbestaande te komen, Hij is hun Toevluchtsoord en hun Fort of Burcht. Het is in onze Elohim Allerhoogste God waarop gelovigen in God zullen vertrouwen. Echte volgelingen van Christus kunnen er zeker van zijn dat Jehovah God hen zal verlossen van de strik van de vogelvanger en van de kwaadaardige pest.

Jezus zegt tegen zijn kerk dat wij, die in nauwe omgang met Jehovah zijn, niets te vrezen hebben ondanks de vele gevaren die ons omringen, omdat onze God ons zal beschermen. Om dit te benadrukken, en om onze hemelse Vader krachtiger te beschrijven, roept hij vier van Gods namen of titels aan: Jehovah, el elyon, elohiym en El Shaddai.

Als we verblijven in de geheime plaats van toewijding in de tegenbeeldige tabernakel, dicht bij Jehovah, dicht bij El Shaddai, dan hoeven we niets te vrezen, want onze God is onsterfelijk, allerhoogst, almachtig en alomvattend. Hij zal ons bedekken en ons beschermen tegen elk kwaad dat onze geestelijke belangen zou kunnen schaden.

Jehovah God, onze Vader, is degene die zal voorzien.
