June Accent
Greetings Altrusans,
I hope this message finds you all doing well. As the sunshine lingers a little longer each evening and the gentle rhythm of summer begins, we are reminded of the simple joys that this season brings—time with family, the laughter of children, and the quiet pleasure of a good book in hand.
For so many of us in Altrusa International of Tidewater, summer is also a season of service. It’s a time when our passion for literacy shines brightly, whether we’re donating books, reading with children, or supporting our local schools in meaningful ways. There is something truly special about placing a book into the hands of a young reader—opening doors to imagination, confidence, and lifelong learning. Each story shared is a seed planted for a brighter future.
Our commitment to the community continues to grow as we look for ways to uplift our local schools. Volunteering—whether through classroom support, library organization, mentoring, or summer reading programs—reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting difference. Together, we create spaces where students feel encouraged, supported, and inspired.
This month, we also pause to recognize World Environment Day on June 6th, a meaningful moment to reflect on the world we share. In 2026, the focus centers on climate change—the urgent signals our Earth is sending and the choices we make in response. The global call encourages each of us to step in, go further, and help guide a world already in motion. The question is no longer whether change is coming, but how we choose to shape it—and how quickly we act.
As Altrusans, we are uniquely positioned to lead with both heart and action. Whether it’s promoting environmental awareness in our schools, supporting sustainable community initiatives, or simply modeling mindful habits in our daily lives, our collective efforts matter. Just as we nurture a love of reading, we can also nurture a love and respect for our planet in the next generation.
This summer, may we continue to serve with joy, read with curiosity, and give with open hearts. Together, we are making a difference—one book, one child, one act of service at a time.
All the Best,
Tracey

During the June meeting, with Ellen conducting the installation ceremony, each of the 2026-27 Board members stepped forward to accept their leadership position. As members, we have a good opportunity to show support for this Board by attending the Annual Retreat on June 13th.
