As September 2020 begins we are still facing difficult times. This is our time to step up, reach out and share our hopes and outlook for a better future for ourselves and everyone we know. May the rest we felt during these months carry us into the ups and downs of the education world. May we find ways to help our community in safe ways. And may we brighten our neighborhoods with the joy of pansies! Our zoom meetings continue, using the same numbers and passcode we have been using.

Accent
Our Altrusa Accent for September carries two very important events. September 8th is International Literacy Day and September 21st is the International Day of Peace. As Altrusans, these subjects are very near and dear to our hearts. Altrusa acknowledges both important dates and they are foundations to our goals and aspirations.
“Since 1967, International Literacy Day (ILD) on September 8th has been celebrated annually around the globe. The aim of ILD is to promote the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society”. -worldliteracyfoundation.org
“The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace”.-internationaldayofpeace.org
As Fall approaches, please continue to share the importance of literacy and spreading peace between our families, friends, and communities. Please have a wonderful month and looking forward when we can see each other again.

Our 2020 Pansy Sale is ready to go. I have attached the Flyer with colors of pansies and violas, the Order Form and an Information Sheet. Make as many copies as you need. Email flyers to as many people as you want. Share on Facebook and other social media. We need to sell a lot of plants.
This may be our major fundraiser this year because of the Covid pandemic.To encourage sales, we are offering a free pot with the purchase of 6 pots. Members who sell 24 pots will receive a free pot.
Please read the Information Sheet carefully. The details for selling plants during a pandemic are in the Information Sheet:
*how to sell pots and give one free pot;
*how customers can pay for the order;
*how to order on the Altrusa Website;
*how to pick up and distribute the pots.
We have tried to devise methods to sell and deliver plants in a safe, socially distanced manner.
All orders must be submitted by October 10 to the website and appointments for pick up will be arranged for individual member.
Contact Barbara S. or Blanch by text or phone call if you have questions. We will be discussing the Pansy Sale at the September meeting and can answer questions then.

The Altrusa Book Club met Saturday, September 12, at Swan Terrace Restaurant for brunch and discussion. The book, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, was a good one to discuss mental illness, PTSD and how people can change. We had an outdoor table to enjoy the beautiful weather while mitigating for the pandemic.
