Live by choice, not by chance;
Make changes, not excuses;
Be motivated, not manipulated;
Be useful, not used;
Excel, don’t compete;
Choose self-esteem, not self-pity;
Choose to listen to yourself;
Not the opinion of others!
Attending my first Altrusa International convention gave me insights into the Altrusan ways.
People around the world have chosen to live by some, if not all of the above statements and as your club president, I can be proud of our accomplishments.
With the auction items we put out, our club helped contribute $247 toward the $6200 raised for the Foundation at the silent auction.
We elected Kathy Folley as the newest International President. Her focus is on books and literacy while still looking at military and feminine hygiene projects.
We have an outline that will lead us to building a better community this year.
Let’s all strive to excel and not compete and be useful not used. Thank you for allowing me to attend this convention and be in your club.
Ellen

A motion was made to partner with A Soldiers Hands (a 501(c)(3)) in a letter-writing project to provide letters to our troops serving in Germany during the upcoming holiday season. Perhaps we could gather at Jo-Kell with stationery and pens on the evening of October 7, 2021. This may be our Make A Difference Day project.

Greetings Altrusans!
I hope this message finds you all doing well and enjoying this last month of summer! The month of August marks the end of summer, back-to-school days, and Fall (my favorite season) is just around the corner!
Since 1999, August 12th marks International Youth Day. Each year, a new theme is assigned to promote international efforts spearheaded by our global youth! For 2021, the theme is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. They are not only focusing on food for our growing population but the negative effects of how food is processed and the impact on our planet. According to the United Nations website, “…the world’s population expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years, it has become recognized by numerous stakeholders that simply producing a larger volume of healthier food more sustainably will not ensure human and planetary wellbeing”. Please have a wonderful day and “welcome home” to our Altrusa sisters who attended our International Convention this year!
All the Best,
Tracey
Service Ideas from Convention
We are encouraged to register on the Altrusa Service page on Facebook; it is private and safe.
When we enter our projects, we are to add pictures and use hashtags# like #SOS or # DfG.
The goal is to grow the membership on that page to 1000 from the current 364.
When you see an idea you like, click the heart symbol and there will be contests for completed projects on Days for Girls, International projects, and Literacy projects.
New President Kathy Folley has selected her theme United We Can and wants to emphasize literacy by getting books into communities and encouraging reading and literacy.
Each member can access the Service Database section of Altrusa.org and learn ideas being done across all districts. For this, just add a brief description, no pictures.
Sherral is proud to announce that the bazaar is scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2021. It will be held at Lynnhaven Colony Congregational church at 9:00am to 2:00pm. Setup will be Friday night at 6:00pm.
Please start making things ladies!
