Important Dates / Information

REMINDER: Annual Dues ($90) are due no later than the May 16th meeting.

May 11: Board Meeting via Zoom @ 5pm

May 16: Program / Business Meeting @ 6pm at Gus and George's Spaghetti and Steak House / 4312 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452 / Social begins at 5:30pm.

May 21: Yard Sale 7am-12:00pm @ Jennifer's home. See info below.

June 25: Retreat will be held at JoKells @ 9am-2pm. A lunch sign-up will be available at Monday's meeting. Coffee and water will be provided.

June 8: Board Meeting via Zoom @ 5pm

June 20: Program / Business Meeting @ 6pm. Location: TBD

President's Message

Greetings,

May brings new life, and new leadership to our club. The two years I served as your president were Covid years, and we did not get to meet in person often, I regret that. Yet we continued making a difference in the community. At conference, we received four awards which you will hear about at the meeting Monday, May 16, at Gus and George Steakhouse. Also, the new board will be installed.

As you look around your home, gather unused items to offer for the yard sale on May 21 in Jennifer's neighborhood. We voted to share the proceeds with World Central Kitchen to address food insecurity, especially in Ukraine.

And I ask you to support Sherral and her committees in planning for the year ahead. JoKell has agreed to provide their excellent location for our planning retreat on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

Thank you for supporting the goals of Altrusa International, and reporting your service hours on our website, or to me for the annual report. And please renew your membership with Kathy!

Greetings Altrusans!

I hope this message finds you doing very well. Spring is here and I am loving the warm weather and showers! My first time as a box gardener is coming along nicely. My tomatoes, herbs, and squashes are doing the best so far. I hope the same for all of your gardens and flower beds! I have found a new passion for growing vegetables! Please feel free to share all your gardening tips and secrets to success!

This May 15, 2022, we celebrate The International Day of Families. The theme this year is Families and Urbanization. The Covid-19 pandemic has had an extreme effect on families. "Starting as a health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic had unprecedented effects on many spheres of life, including the economy, education and nutrition. It negatively impacted care arrangements, work-family balance, gender equality and other aspects of family life". Many Altrusans are busy at work, supporting families in need during these challenging times.

International Day of Families

As Altrusans, the support given by our members to schools, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and shelters demonstrates how we are caring for families in our local communities. Days for Girls is an excellent example of how we help women around the world!

We will continue helping families through our many programs throughout the year.

In closing, please allow me to extend a belated Happy Mother's Day!
